SCORPIONS Photographer Dies
January 24, 2004Acclaimed German photographer Helmut Newton was killed in a car crash in Hollywood, California on Friday (Jan. 23). The 83-year-old Newton was pulling out of a parking lot at the Chateau Marmont Hotel off Sunset Boulevard when he lost control of his Cadillac and crashed into a wall. The vehicle sustained major damage and Newton died of his injuries at Cedars Sinai Medical Centre.
Newton's erotic and often controversial photography landed the SCORPIONS in hot water during 1984. His depiction of a leather-clad couple getting tattooed on their "Love At First Sting" album was deemed offensive enough to have Wal-Mart ban the album from their stores.
